Sunday School Easter Craft For Kids

Too often the religious significance of Easter is forgotten and children are too enraptured by all the candy to think of the deeper meaning of Christmas. If you are looking for a suitable Easter craft for kids then perhaps a craft that focuses on Jesus and the meaning of Easter instead of an Easter bunny craft will help children to understand what Easter is all about. In this Easter craft for kids children will learn how to make figurines out of clay pots that concern the Easter story.

Simple Figurines

You will need some clay pots for this. You can buy small terra cotta like pots for this craft. Look at a local gardening, hardware store, or even a 99 cent store for suitable pots. They shouldn't be more than two to three inches high. With a two and a half inch diameter. You will also need small wooden balls, look for them in craft and bead stores.

In this Easter craft for kids it might get a little messy so remember to put some newspaper down before you start. The following instructions will help you make a depiction of Jesus. You can vary the decoration and color scheme to make other characters from the story of Easter.

Paint the pot with white acrylic paint. The wooden ball will be the head so paint it flesh colored. You will probably need to give both pot and ball a second or third coat, usually a second coat is sufficient.

Now the next part of this Easter craft for kids requires some strong glue. Turn the clay pot upside down and glue the wooden ball onto the top of it. Now you can start making the features. You can either do this with felt by sticking dark brown felt onto the top for hair and some black felt for the beard. Then draw in eyes, nose and mouth or you could paint everything in.

Cut a semi circle of white felt or other material out and fashion this into a robe for the figure. It should go around the back of the figure and come in front so that you can overlap the ends of the robe.

Glue it in place and leave to dry before adding more decoration. You can use a little trim to add decoration to the robe, such as a border or perhaps a small cross. This is an excellent Sunday school Easter craft for kids. It can be done over several weeks if need be in preparation for Easter.
